Prostatitis Types

The term prostatitis encompasses the following categories related to prostate

  • Acute bacterial Prostatisis is the least common of the four types. Usually caused by bacterial infections. It is also the easiest to diagnose and treat effectively. The most common symptoms that occur with this disorder include chills, high fever, pain in lower back and genital area or pain in other parts of the body, painful urination or burning sensation and frequent urination, usually night. In this case, the urinary system is infected, as can be demonstrated by the appearance of white blood cells and bacteria in the urine.
  • Bacterial Chronic Prostatitis is also rare. Prostatitis is basically a long associated with other defects of the prostate, which becomes a focus of persistent infection in the urinary system. You may also be due to bacterial prostatitis has not healed well, a permanent swelling of the prostate or to the stress and irregular sexual activity is maintained. Symptoms include pain in lower back discomfort in the perineum, pain in the testicles and, if the infection spreads to the bladder, evacuation difficult, incomplete and painful urine (dysuria), and a very urgent need and frequent urination. Effective treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis usually requires the identification and repair of the defect in the prostate and then treatment with antibiotics. Know that the isolated treatment with antibiotics will not cure the disease completely. Are sometimes prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen to relieve pain. This infection causes only local symptoms (prostate, urethra, bladder).
  • Chronic Prostatitis non bacterial, is the most common and least understood. It is estimated that eight times more common than bacterial prostatitis. It is usually chronic, painful, and it appears in men of any age. The symptoms usually disappear and reappear without warning. The urine and fluids from the prostate show no evidence of any infectious organism known to possess, but some semen and other fluids from the prostate contain white blood cells. Doctors usually treat nonbacterial prostatitis with antibiotics and medications that relax muscles in the prostate. This type of prostatitis may be associated with other diseases such as reactive arthritis (Reiter's disease). Sometimes medications are prescribed anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen and naproxen to relieve pain.
  • Prostatodynia, is similar to nonbacterial prostatitis in terms of symptoms, age of the patients and the limited effectiveness of treatments. In prostatodynia you have symptoms from the prostate but without infection. It is believed that stress, anxiety and depression, play an important role in causing the clinical manifestations presented by these people. However, do not show objective evidence of its existence, such as white blood cells in urine. Anti-inflammatory drugs are usually prescribed to relieve pain.
